Board Track Racers
Board track racing was popular in the United States during the 1910s and 1920s. Competition was conducted on circular or oval race courses with surfaces composed of wooden planks… and the motorcycles didn’t have brakes. I have always been fascinated by this short lived sport, and the riders and their insane bravery.
These pieces are my tribute to the beauty of the whole concept, featuring copper leaf under an iron oxide transfer on 18″x24″ wooden butcher blocks.
